KHATU SHYAM TEMPLE, (Rajasthan Devdarshan)
The Khatu Shyam Temple, located in the town of Khatu in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, is one of the most revered temples in India, dedicated to Lord Khatu Shyam, also known as Shyam Baba or Barbarika. It holds immense religious significance, drawing devotees from all over the country. The temple is renowned for its splendid architecture, peaceful ambiance, and the heartfelt devotion that fills its atmosphere.
According to legend, Barbarika, the grandson of Bhima from the Mahabharata, was blessed by Lord Krishna. He sacrificed his head to the Lord before the Kurukshetra war, wishing to support the weaker side in the battle. Pleased by his devotion, Krishna blessed him, stating that he would be worshipped in the Kali Yuga under the name of Shyam, the incarnation of compassion and love. Devotees believe that Khatu Shyam Baba grants wishes, helps those in need, and brings peace and happiness to his followers.
The temple’s grand marble edifice with intricate carvings and architectural beauty stands out. The deity's idol, adorned with vibrant flowers and traditional Rajasthani attire, exudes a divine aura that attracts millions of visitors each year. The main attraction of the temple is the Phalgun Mela, held during February-March, which celebrates the incarnation of Lord Shyam. Devotees walk hundreds of kilometers to join this festival, making it a colorful and spiritual event.
The Khatu Shyam Temple is open year-round, but Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered especially auspicious. The serene atmosphere, the resonating chants, and the warmth of faith make Khatu Shyam Temple a place of profound spiritual experience and a cherished pilgrimage site.
